Renew Your SCAC

Renew your Standard Carrier Alpha Code® (SCAC) annually to avoid operational disruptions.

To keep your SCAC active, it must be renewed annually. Renewing on time helps prevent disruptions to your operations and ensures your SCAC remains valid across the industry.

SCAC renewal now includes identity verification to help protect carriers and reduce fraud risk.

Why Renewal Is Required

SCACs are issued on an annual basis. Renewal ensures that:

  • Your carrier information remains current;
  • Your SCAC status stays active in industry systems; and
  • Your identity is re-verified to protect against misuse.

An expired SCAC can delay onboarding, tendering, or payment.

ID Verification at Renewal

As part of the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc.’s® (NMFTA) efforts to reduce freight fraud, identity verification is required at renewal for non-Class 8 carriers. This helps ensure that every SCAC is tied to a real, verified individual. Only verification status is recorded—personal information is not published.

Trust the Code

SCAC is more than an administrative requirement. It's the identifier the industry uses to confirm who is authorized to move freight, support onboarding and tendering workflows, and reduce the risk of impersonation and double brokering. Watch the video below to discover how NMFTA is improving the existing SCAC Online platform to become SCAC Verified.

Don't Let Your SCAC Lapse

Renewing early helps avoid last-minute issues and keeps your operations running smoothly.
