What "Verified" Means

Driver-3 signal

SCAC Verified refers to the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc.’s® (NMFTA) official Standard Carrier Alpha Code® (SCAC) status and verification lookup product—formerly known as SCAC Online.

It provides a single, authoritative place to check SCAC status, including whether a carrier’s SCAC reflects verified identity where applicable.

What SCAC Verified Is

SCAC Verified is a directory designed to help the industry look up and confirm carrier information, including:

Whether a SCAC is active

SCAC Verified confirms whether a Standard Carrier Alpha Code® (SCAC®) is currently active as issued by NMFTA.

This allows shippers, brokers, platforms, and insurers to check a carrier’s operating code status before onboarding, tendering, or pickup—using the same universal identifier the industry already relies on.

Whether a SCAC reflects a verified identity status

Where identity verification is required at issuance or renewal (for non-Class 8 carriers), SCAC Verified displays a status-only indicator showing that the SCAC has completed the required identity verification process.

This means the SCAC is tied to a verified identity and physical address at key lifecycle events—helping reduce impersonation, double brokering, and fictitious pickup risks—without publishing any personal information.

Official SCAC details as issued by NMFTA

SCAC Verified reflects official SCAC records maintained by NMFTA.

The directory and API provide a standardized, status-only trust signal that can be referenced across onboarding systems, procurement policies, and platform workflows—ensuring everyone is checking against the same authoritative source.

SCAC Verified does not handle SCAC applications, renewals, or account management.

What "Verified" Refers To

A SCAC is verified during issuance or renewal through NMFTA’s SCAC application system at scaccode.com, and means that the affiliated Carrier has passed one of our verification processes.

Currently, NMFTA uses two methods to validate applications and renewals: a US Government ID or Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) details, such as a US DOT number.

SCAC Verified simply displays that status—it does not perform identity verification or data validation itself.
